Bachelor of Applied Science — Construction Management (Hons)
John Gowdie is well-known on the Australian property development and construction scene as a strong, reliable leader and effective change agent. John has more than 30 years’ practical experience in property development and construction management, with his early work for some of Australia’s major construction companies, including Bovis Lend Lease and Walter Corporation, laying the foundations for the many and varied projects he has successfully completed for Gowdie Management Group.
Since establishing the company in 2004, John has accrued considerable experience, providing invaluable strategic advice to major clients at the outset of significant property developments, as well as innovative solutions for those dealing with distressed assets. He has managed many large commercial, retail and institutional projects for major clients such as Westpac Banking Corporation, The Royal Bank of Scotland, KordaMentha, Leighton Contractors, and the Australian, Queensland and Victorian governments.
One of John’s strengths is to recognise opportunities and identify and mitigate risks. He is able to oversee a project from initial concept through feasibility and construction to closeout and ongoing facilities management. He does this by carefully managing the expectations of both the client and key stakeholders and maintaining close attention to detail.
John has played a crucial role in the successful completion of many major projects, including Raine Square in Perth, Southport Central on the Gold Coast, Jade Apartments in Townsville and Leighton Properties’ Viridian Noosa Resort and Spa on the Sunshine Coast. Most recently, he has played an integral role in the Hopkins Correctional Centre (Ararat) project in Victoria, applying his highly effective and efficient brief development, construction and stakeholder management skills to meet the objectives of this high-profile public-private partnership.
John holds an open building license in Queensland, New South Wales, Western Australia and Victoria and has the ability to undertake the role of head contractor, licensed nominee and superintendent.
